iKMS Practitioner’s Conference: KM Singapore 2008
KM Singapore 2008 held at Orchard Hotel 9-10 October 2008 was iKMS’ biggest and best conference yet. With Permanent Secretary Chan Yeng Kit as our guest of honour, our inaugural KM Excellence Awards, two international keynotes, 14 practitioner case studies, and a cross-industry panel discussion it was a varied and highly interactive event for almost 180 participants. “The Lost Art of Thinking” – Tony Sheehan of Ashridge Business School and formerly of Arup delivers the second keynote address at iKMS’ annual conference KM Singapore 2008, on the topic “The Lost Art of Thinking”. Tony takes us through ten steps of significant change in organisational life, leading to a plea for balance and an outline of what we need in terms of connecting tools, networks, corporate values, learning strategies, and time to think.

CASE STUDY CAFE
The case study cafe consisted of a 3 minute outline presentation of a “case pitch” from each of the case presenters. The session then broke into round table discussions in a knowledge cafe format, with each table discussing the case in depth with the presenter. Each case was discussed in either two or three separate sessions. The cases included the five KM Excellence Award winners. The “case pitch” presentations are captured on the videos below, and the case outlines together with comments on insights and lessons learned from case participants are also provided for download.

PANEL DISCUSSION:
The Panel Discussion was chaired by Assoc Professor Abdus Sattar Chaudhry of Nanyang Technological University and explored issues, challenges, strategies and successes for KM implementation across different industries. Panel members included Dr Janaky Grant (KM in the telecoms industry), Cor Beetsma (engineering), Murni Shariff (oil and gas), Graham Higgins (airlines) and LTC Karuna Ramanathan (armed forces).
