One of Asia’s most respected knowledge management practitioners, Patrick was originally trained in Library Science. He arrived in KM via a second career in training and development, and has been based in Singapore for 26 years. Patrick is the author of Organising Knowledge: Taxonomies, Knowledge and Organisation Effectiveness (Oxford: Chandos 2007), co-author with Nick Milton of The Knowledge Manager's Handbook (London: Kogan Page 2016), Visiting Professor in the KIM PhD programme at Bangkok University, President of the International Society for Knowledge Organization Singapore Chapter and a member of the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Knowledge Management, Knowledge Management For Development Journal, and Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation. His 2011 paper on "The Unacknowledged Parentage of Knowledge Management" won a Highly Commended Award in the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2012.
Edgar is Managing Partner of Straits Knowledge and is Managing Director of our sister company Straits Knowledge Digital. He began his career in human resource development before moving to KM over a decade ago. He majored in Sociology and has a Master’s in Training and Performance Management. Edgar is past President of the Information and Knowledge Management Society.
Ng Wai Kong
Wai Kong is our Head of Projects, and in this role he project manages our client projects, manages our publications and events, and helps to deliver our knowledge audit projects. He is a key figure in ensuring our knowledge audit process is accurate and effective. Wai Kong spent several years providing administrative support to the Information and Knowledge Management Society and has helped organise the annual KM Singapore conference for iKMS.
Ari is our Director of Partnerships, responsible for building our alliances with consulting partners and for working with our clients on projects that involve software implementations. He was educated in the UK and is based in Kuala Lumpur. Ari's background is in marketing, branding and partnerships for a major software company.
Lim Kwang Kok
KK is an Associate Consultant with Straits Knowledge. He has a wealth of experience as a consultant delivering on KM projects while with the Dow Jones Consulting Group as well as with Ernst & Young (Business Advisory Services). He has also direct implementation experience while helming Directorship positons with two Singapore government agencies before starting up Milkk Consulting in late 2014. KK has also contributed to the Singapore KM community by being the past Vice President of the Information and Knowledge Management Society.
Dr Aref Makooi
Based in the UK, Aref has been working as an information professional and taxonomy specialist for over 30 years, and he works with Straits Knowledge as an Associate Consultant on taxonomy projects. He has extensive experience in information architecture, developing and maintaining user-centric taxonomies and thesaurus construction as well as creating metadata schemas, user testing and web usability analysis. Aref has know-how in managing library and information units, enquiry handling management, social survey techniques, questionnaire design and analysis, as well as training and managing people. Aref holds a PhD in Information Studies from University College London. Recent major clients include the British Council, Chemist Direct, Time Out, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, and DirectGov UK. Aref's website is here.
Based in the UK, Arshad represents Straits Knowledge in the UK, and is an Associate Consultant with us. He is an experienced KM practitioner from the UK who - among other things - developed a tactical knowledge retention process for a global business process services company. Arshad holds an M.Phil in Computation from the University of Manchester, where he specialised in using Ontological Analysis to develop a methodology for best practice knowledge bases. He has worked as a further education tutor, MSc Dissertation Supervisor and writer, before pursuing dedicated KM roles, predominantly in the Business Process Outsourcing sector. Arshad is also a regional coordinator for the Manchester Knowledge Cafes and writes about his ongoing KM experiences in his blog here.
